Because the alif is later than the lām in its other name, and it is the knowledge that the servant obtains from himself in
His saying, peace be upon him, “Whoever knows himself knows his Lord ”
So he prioritized the knowledge of the lām over the knowledge of the alif, so it became evidence. Accordingly, they are not mixed until they become one essence, but rather each one of them is in itself, and for this reason the evidence and the signified do not come together, but the aspect of the evidence is the connection and it is the place where the L is connected to the Alif, so multiply the two Alifs, A, one by the other, and one thousand, A, is valid for you outside, and this is the reality of the connection. Likewise, multiply the new by the old in sense. The new is valid for you in the outside, and the old is hidden by its emergence. This is the reality of connection and unity, and when your Lord said to the angels, “Indeed, I will place a caliph on earth,” and this is the opposite of Al-Junaid’s indication in his saying to the sneezer, “When the new is compared to the old, no trace remains of it due to the difference in status. Do you not see how the Lam Al-Alif is connected to someone of whom there is no doubt?” From the Throne, two selves appeared without ignorance of the secret of the contract between them, then the Throne separated them upon returning to it and arriving [Page 64 of the Cairo Edition]
So it became in this form, Al, so the L appeared in its true nature because no one who would return it to his image established it as a place of connection and union. So we brought out the half-circle from the lam that was hidden in the lam of the alif to the world
