Rather, what is called Raja is called because it is fire mixed with air, which is the burning air, for the meadow is the mixing, and from it the name Marj is called meadow because of the mixing of the plants in it, so it is made of two elements, air and fire, I mean the jinn, just as Adam was made of two elements, water and earth, which he kneaded with, so the name “mud” occurred to him, just as the name “fire” mixed with the air occurred. The one who rises, so God Almighty opened in that one the image of the jinn. With the air within it, he takes shape in any form he wishes, and with the fire that is within it, he is foolish and great in his kindness, and in him is the desire for oppression, arrogance, and glory, for fire is the highest of the pillars in place and he has the power to transform the things required by nature, which is the reason that causes him to be too arrogant to prostrate. For Adam, when God Almighty commanded him to interpret his instrument to say, “I am better than him,” that is to say, by virtue of the origin with which God preferred the four pillars, and he did not know that the power of the water from which Adam was created was stronger than his, for it took him away, and that the dust was stronger than it against cold and dryness, so Adam had strength and steadfastness due to the dominance of the two pillars that [Page 132 of the Cairo edition] God created him from both of them, even though he had the rest of the pillars in him, but they did not have that authority, which is air and fire, as in the jinn of the rest of the pillars, and so he called what he hoped for, but they did not have that authority in his creation, and He gave Adam humility.
