What should be relied upon is that it is not possible for a person to accommodate the world with his good morals, since the whole world was aligned with his purpose or will and not with what should be. When the purposes and wills differed, and each person with a purpose or will asked the boy to treat him according to his purpose and will, and the purposes were opposite, then the purpose would be Zaid in regard to Omar and to be hostile to Khaled, and Khaled’s purpose in Zaid was to be hostile to Omar, or his purpose was to be loyal to him and love him [Page 242 of the Cairo edition]
and favor him. So if he issued a fatwa with Omar and antagonized Khaled, or Khalid disavowed him and Zaid praised him. With his jurisprudence and noble character, and if he did not return Khalid and be loyal to him and love him, Khalid praised him and Zaid disdained him. Why do we see that the matter is to this extent and that it is not general and that it is not possible from reason or habit for a person to rise in this world or where he is in a position that satisfies the two opposites? The young man should abandon his own desires and return to his His Creator, who is his master and master, says, “I am a slave,” and the slave should be under the rule of his master, not under the rule of himself, nor under the rule of anyone other than his master. He follows what pleases him, adheres to his limits and regulations, and does not be one of those who make his master a partner in his verticality. He should be with his master according to what he sets for him, and he acts according to what he decrees for him and does not care. He agrees. The purposes of the scholar or he disagrees with them, if he agrees.
