That servant said, “If I mention you, I am not alone with him.” Thus, he knew the fate of my descent to the lowest heaven at night, and why I descended and to whom I asked. I recite my book to him in his tongue and he hears, and that is my connection. That servant is the one who takes pleasure in my words, so if he stops at their meanings, he has departed from me in his thought and contemplation, so what he should do is He listens to me and leaves his ear to my words so that I am in that recitation as I recited it to him and heard him. I am the one who explains my words to him and translates its meaning to him. That is my interaction with him. He takes knowledge from me, not from his thoughts and considerations. He does not care about mentioning heaven, hell, reckoning, honor, this world, or the afterlife. He looked at it with his mind and did not search for the verse with his mind. Rather, he listened to what I told him, and he is a martyr present with me. I undertake to teach him myself, so I say to him, “O my servant, I meant such-and-such with this verse, and with this other verse, so-and-so, and so-and-so, until dawn breaks, and he obtains knowledge with certainty that he did not have.” He heard the Qur’an from me, and from me he heard its explanation and the interpretation of its meanings. Whatever I meant by that speech and that verse and surah, he would be well-mannered with me in listening to it and listening to it. If I asked him to continue with that, he would answer me in presence and watching, presenting to everyone I spoke to him about it and taught him. If it was, he would take it as a complete completion. Otherwise, we would compensate him for what I said.
