What is true of the Sunnah is that what has reached it is that, and following is more important than innovation, and the difference between following and innovation is reasonable, and that is why the legislator tended to call it Sunnah, and what he called it heresy, because innovation is the manifestation of a matter without an example. This is its origin, and that is why the Almighty Truth said about Himself, the Creator of the heavens and the earth, meaning the Creator of them without an example. Previously, if a person today legislated something that had no basis in the Sharia, that would be innovation and would not justify us adopting it, so the legislator changed the word “innovation” to the word “Sunnah,” since the Sunnah was lawful, and God has legislated for Muhammad, may God bless him and grant him peace, to follow the example of the Prophets, peace be upon them, and God speaks the truth and He guides.
