Of God's punishment, whatever God wills, just as it is removed from him in this world if he commits sin.
The Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said about a believer who drinks alcohol, steals, and commits adultery. He does not do any of that, and he is a believer when he does it. He said that faith comes out of him at that time when he does it.
People interpreted this hadith in a different way because they did not understand the meaning of the Lawgiver. They interpreted belief by deeds and said that he meant deeds. The Prophet, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, explained what he meant by that in the other hadith.
So he, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, said If a servant commits adultery, faith is removed from him until it becomes like a canopy over him, and when he quits, faith returns to him.
