Divinity, because if he denied the negation, it would be the same as proof of what the polytheist claimed. It is as if he was saying to the polytheist: This statement that you said is not correct, that is, what is the matter as you claimed, and there must be a god, and the multitude of gods has been denied by the letter of the affirmative, which is his statement, except that they made this attribution to what is mentioned later. The letter of the affirmative, which is called God, so they said, “There is no god but God,” so the attribution of divinity to God was not proven by proving the affirmative, because He, Glory be to Him, is God to Himself. So the affirmative was proven by His saying, “There is only God.” This matter is in the soul of the one who did not believe that He was unique, Glory be to Him, with this description. If proof is proven impossible, and denying the negative is not impossible, then in reality what is worshiped. The polytheist except God, because if he did not believe in divinity in the partner, he would not have worshiped Him, and your Lord has decreed that you should worship none but Him, and therefore the Truth was jealous of this description, so He punished them in this world when they did not respect Him, and He provided for them, and He heard their supplication and answered them if they asked their God according to their claim, because He, Glory be to Him, knew that they had resorted to nothing but this rank, even if they were wrong in it. The ratio, so they suffered eternal misery in the Hereafter, as the Messenger warned them to unite those for whom this ratio was required, but they did not consider or advise themselves. This is why the indication of each Messenger was according to what was dominant among the people of his time, so that the argument could be established against them, so God would have the final proof.
