So, Glory be to Him, He said, “And those who are endowed with knowledge,” He did not say, “And those who are endowed with faith,” for his testimony to monotheism for Himself is not based on news, so it is faith, and for this witness in what he bears witness to can only be based on knowledge, otherwise his testimony is not valid. Then He, the Almighty, the Majestic, sympathizes with the angels and those who are endowed with knowledge with the waw, which is a letter that gives the signification. There is absolutely no participation here except in testimony. Then he added them to knowledge, not to faith, so we know that he meant the one to whom monotheism was attained through theoretical or necessary knowledge, not through narration, as if he was saying [Page 326 of the Cairo edition] And the angels bore witness to my monotheism through the necessary knowledge of the manifestation that benefited them. Knowledge took the place of correct consideration of the evidence, so it bore witness to monotheism for me as I bore witness to myself. Knowledge was attributed to rational consideration, which I placed in My servants. Then faith came after that in the second rank of scholars, and it is what is relied upon for happiness, for God commanded it and we called it knowledge because the informer is God. So he said, “So know.” There is no god but God, and God Almighty said, “And that they may know that He is but one God,” when He divided the ranks at the end of Surat Ibrahim from the Mighty Qur’an, and the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, said in the Sahih, “Whoever dies”
