And they thought that there would be no trial, so they became blind and deaf, then God turned to them in the event that they heard from the Messenger, may God bless him and grant him peace, when He told them that the world is a bridge and the like, so do not occupy yourselves with building it. And stand up, and when he had finished saying, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, many of them returned to their blindness and deafness despite being believing Muslims, so God Almighty informed His Prophet of his saying, “Then they became blind and deaf after repentance.” He says, “What is the benefit of saying about them, O my guardian? If we assume that the world is here to stay and we will not see, you will be gone from it for a generation after that.” Generation [ Consideration of hearts and the requirements of “the Beloved ”] Among the conditions of this group is their observance [Page 213 of the edition Cairo] because their hearts and their secrets are connected to God in terms of knowing their souls, and they do not meet during the day with the heedless, but rather their movements are night and their looking into the unseen, and their predominance is a place of sadness, for if sadness is lost from the heart, it is ruined.
