[ Evidence of the People of God ]

As for the People of God, they are as we are, there has been evidence of verification of that from their Lord in their souls, and if it is possible to imagine, based on all that we have mentioned in this, many possibilities, then that is due to what you give. Words are powerful in their origin, not what the matter is in itself according to the people of taste who take knowledge from God, like Al-Khidr and his like. A person utters a speech intending with it one meaning, for example, from the meanings included in that speech, and if it is interpreted from those meanings other than what the speaker intended, then the interpreter only interpreted some of them. What gives him the strength of the word, even if he did not achieve the speaker’s intention? Do you not see how hard the Companions were treated by the Almighty’s saying, “Those who believed and did not mix up their faith with injustice?” Then he brought it in denial, and they said, “Who among us was not mixing up his faith with injustice?” These Companions, and they are the Arabs on whose tongue the Qur’an was revealed, they did not know [Page 136 of the Cairo edition ] What is intended by the truth from the verse, and what they saw was permissible in the word, not objectionable.
