This speaker interpreted the nominative as saying, “I am free from it,” meaning he has no path. This is how the dissenter interpreted it, and the fatha interpreted it as submission. He said, “It means submit, even though he is an enemy. He himself does not command me except with goodness, reparation from God, and protection for the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace.” And the dissenter said, meaning, “so submit.” By opening, that is, he believed in God just as the unbeliever submits to us and returns as a believer, and this is the first and most correct.
[ Satan is the first of the wretched among the jinn ]
And most people claim that he is the first of the jinn. He is in the position of Adam among people, but this is not the case with us. Rather, he is one of the jinn, and the first among them is in the position of Adam among humans, but he is other than him. Therefore, God Almighty said, “Except Iblis, he is of the jinn, that is, of this type of creatures, just as Cain was of humans. God wrote him wretched, for he is the first of the wretched of humans.” Iblis is the first of the wretched among the jinn, and the torment of the devils from among the jinn in Hell is most of the time with a flurry, not with burning, and he may be tormented with fire, and the sons of Adam are most tormented with fire. One day I stood upon a mentally ill person among the saints, and his eyes filled with tears as he said to the people, “Do not stand by the Almighty’s saying, ‘I will fill Hell with you for Iblis only.’ Rather, look at it.” His reference to you, Glory be to Him, by His saying to Satan, “Hell is from you,” for he was created from fire, so God’s curse on him returns to his origin, even if he is tortured by it.
