[ The movements of the nine spheres and their corresponding inner and outer deeds ] Know, may God help you and enlighten you, that the first thing that the one entering into this legitimate divine path must seek is the Master. Until he finds it, and to do during this period in which the professor asks for the actions that I mentioned to him, which is to commit himself to nine things, for they are simple numbers, so he will have a firm footing in monotheism if he works on them, and for this reason God made the spheres nine spheres, so see what divine wisdom is revealed in the movements of these nine, and make of them Four are in your outward appearance and five are in your inwardness. What are in your outward appearance is hunger, staying up late, silence, and isolation. Two are active, namely hunger and isolation, and two are passive, which are staying up late and silence. By silence, I mean abandoning people’s speech and preoccupying oneself with the remembrance of the heart and the self’s utterance rather than the utterance of the tongue, except for what God has made obligatory for, such as reciting the Mother of the Qur’an or whatever is available from the Qur’an. In prayer and the takbir in it and what has been prescribed of glorification, remembrance, supplication, tashahhud, and blessings upon the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, until you are free from them and devote yourself to the remembrance of the heart with the silence of the tongue. Hunger includes staying up late, and silence includes isolation. As for the five hidden secrets, they are honesty.
