Any rest for the people of the night is divine, just as it is a natural rest for people. When people sleep, they rest with their Lord and are alone with Him with sense and meaning in what they ask of, such as accepting repentance, answering an invitation, forgiving forgiveness of love, and other things. So people’s sleep is rest for them, and God Almighty descends to them at night to the lowest heaven, so no veil remains between Him and them. So that His descending to them is a mercy for them and that He may be revealed from the heaven of the world to them. It was mentioned in the report that it says: He who claims to love me is lying. When the night falls, he sleeps for me. Not every lover seeks privacy with his beloved. It is I who have appeared for my servants. Is there any need that I may respond? Is there anyone who repents, so I may repent to him? Is there anyone who seeks forgiveness, so I forgive him until he cracks? [Page 238 of the Cairo edition] Al-Fajr [ Conflicting with the people of the night in their niches ] So the people of the night are the ones who win this privilege in this seclusion and this conversing in their niches. They are standing, reciting his words and opening their ears to what he tells them in his words. When he says, O people, they line up and say, “We are the people.” You want us, O Lord, in this call of yours, so the Almighty will say to them on their tongues, through their recitation of His words which He revealed, “Fear your Lord. Indeed, the earthquake of the Hour is a great thing. O people, they will say, ‘Here is our Lord.’” Water fell from the sky and brought out from it Fruits are a provision for you.
