People go to the scales and stand at the scales for a thousand years. Whoever tips the scales with his good deeds will win and be saved in the blink of an eye. Whoever has a light scale of good deeds and his bad deeds are heavy will be imprisoned at the scales for a thousand years in grief, worry, sadness, torment, hunger and thirst until God decides on him whatever He wills

[ Standing before God in twelve situations ]

Then he calls upon creation to stand before God in twelve situations, each of which is the duration of a thousand years, and in the first situation he is asked about Freeing necks [Page 311 of the Cairo edition]

If he has freed a slave, God will free his neck from Hell, and he may go to the second position and be asked about the Qur’an, its rights, and its recitation. If he has done that completely, he may go to the third position and be asked about jihad. If he has struggled in For God's sake, seeking reward, he may go to the fourth position and be asked about backbiting, and if it is not backbiting, he may go to the fifth position and be asked about gossip. If he is not a gossip, he may go to the sixth position and be asked about lying. If he is not a liar, he may be asked about the seventh position and be asked about seeking knowledge. If he was seeking knowledge and acting on it. It is permissible to go to the eighth position and be asked about arrogance. If he is not impressed with himself in his religion and worldly life or in any of his work, he is permissible to the ninth position and be asked about arrogance. If he is not arrogant towards anyone, he is permissible to the tenth position and be asked about despair of God’s mercy. If he is not despondent of God’s mercy.
