Among these is the one who refused to be one of the captains, from Chapter 456. The captain said, “Whoever extracted the treasure of knowledge of God from himself when he heard the saying of the Almighty, ‘We will show them Our signs on the horizons and in their souls.’ And His saying, ‘And in yourselves, will you not see?’ And the saying of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, ‘Who knows himself?’” He knew his Lord

He said, “Whoever refuses to have such knowledge is not one of the prophets,” and he said, “When he knew that there is a connection between the evidence and the signified,” he asceticized his knowledge of God in terms of his looking at the evidence and no one but himself, and he was among those who knew himself in God. A group of theorists, such as Abu Hamid, went to that, but we have a different way of doing that than theirs, for what they went to in that is not valid, and what we went to is valid, which is that we take knowledge of it
