By what means did he gain precedence over the angels ?

The answer is that God has made that clear by His Almighty saying, “And He taught Adam all the names,” meaning the divine names that were directed toward finding the truths of the universes, and among them were the divine names that were directed toward creating the angels, but the angels do not know them.

By the names of those whom We presented to them, Adam informed the angels of the names of those manifestations, and they were similar to the number of divine truths required by the divine hands in Adam’s creation, which were not found in any other angels. So these named ones that were presented to the angels were divine manifestations in the form of what was in Adam. The truths, for those are all of Adam’s knowledge. When Adam, peace be upon him, taught them, God said to them, “Did I not tell you that I know the unseen of the heavens, which is what is exalted above the knowledge of the unseen and the earth, which is the secrets in nature, and I know what you reveal, i.e., what matters are apparent, and what you conceal, i.e., what you hide?” However, it is hidden and hidden, so I informed you that it is a relative matter, rather it is apparent to whoever knows it .
