2

When I entered Syria, my mind was confused, and I had never seen a lover like me before me in love

3

I fell in love, and I do not know who I fell in love with, whether it was my beloved Creator, or he was my form

4

And my ears have never heard him mentioned' So did someone else’s lover say this before me?

5

So I traveled across God's lands, east and west, in the hope that I might see someone who would agree with me

6

I saw nothing but a certain lover who, of course, remained in the shadows
