As for uprightness in the language of the common people of God, it is to say that uprightness is general in the universe as we have decided. There is no path but that it is straight, because there is no path that does not lead to God. But God Almighty said to His Prophet and to us, “So be upright as you are commanded.” He did not address him with absolute uprightness, for it has been established that It is to God that all things happen and that He is the goal of every path, but the matter is to which name it reaches and becomes one of the divine names, so the effect of that name penetrates the one who reaches it, whether happiness and bliss or misery and torment, so the meaning of uprightness is movements and stillness according to the legitimate method.
