Among the saints are also the purified men and women, may God be pleased with them. God the Holy One has entrusted them with His purification, so their purification is an intrinsic, not an actual, purification. It is an attribute of purity, and it works in purity apparently, but in reality it is not the case. That is why God loved them, for it is an intrinsic attribute of His that is indicated by His Holy Name, peace, so He loved Himself and the image in them. Like the image in the two who repent, and that is why he combined them in one verse, saying that God loves those who repent and love those who purify themselves, so He specified His love for them so that it is known that the characteristic of repentance is not the characteristic of purification, and juxtaposed between them the unique treatment of God with regard to them in that He loved nothing but Himself .
