When the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, was asked after the imamate of Gabriel, peace be upon him, about the time for prayer, he led the people in prayer for two days. He prayed on the first day at the first of the times, and he prayed on the second day at the last of the times, all five prayers, including Maghrib, then he told the questioner the time. Between these two, he assigned two times for Maghrib, like all other prayers, and attached it to the pre-emptive prayer, even if it was an odd-numbered prayer, but it is a useful odd-numbered prayer, interceding for the odd-numbered prayer of the night prayer, so he expanded its time like all other prayers, and this is what should be relied upon, as it is later than the imamate of Gabriel, so it must be taken into account, as the Companions used to take the newer, so the newer is from the action of the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace.
