As for their disagreement regarding the necessity of washing it from sleep in general, and regarding those who limit that to the night’s sleep, know that the night is occultation because it is the place of concealment, and that is why He made the night a covering, and the day a testimony because it is the place of appearance and movement, and that is why He made it a livelihood for seeking virtue, which means seeking sustenance here from His face, for the virtue that is sought is from increase and from Honor, which is the increase of virtues, for he collects what he does not have as sustenance, so it is curiosity because he collects it for his heir or for someone else. If a person’s sustenance is what he collects, it is what he is nourished with. Know that the sleeper is undoubtedly in the world of the unseen, and if sleeping is at night, then it is an unseen in the unseen, so his ruling is stronger, and sleeping during the day. He is absent in testimony, so his ruling is weaker.
