Omar bin Al-Khattab, may God be pleased with him. No misfortune befell me except that I saw that God had given me three blessings in it: the one blessing, where the calamity was not in my religion, the second blessing, where nothing greater than it was, so God repelled with it what was greater than it, and the third blessing was what God made. And know that the believer in this world has many blessings because God loves to purify him until he turns to him pure, cleansed of the filth of transgressions that God has decreed for him to commit in this world, so the believer is still a refuge in all his conditions, and it has been proven from the Messenger of God, may God bless him and grant him peace, in that regard. The example of a believer is like raw material sustenance: it is struck by the wind one time and modified another time until it becomes agitated.

You must recite the Qur’an and contemplate it, and look in your recitation to what is praised in it of the adjectives and attributes with which God described those of His servants whom He loves, so he was described by them, and what God condemned in the Qur’an of the adjectives and adjectives with which those who hate God are described, so avoid them, for God has not mentioned them. And He revealed it in His Book to you and introduced it to you except that you should act upon it. So if you recite the Qur’an, then be the Qur’an for what is in the Qur’an and strive to memorize it by action just as you memorized it by recitation, for no one will be more severely tormented on the Day of Resurrection than someone who memorized a verse and then forgot it, just as he who memorized a verse and then abandoned acting upon it was a witness against him. You have to sit with someone whose sitting with him will benefit you in your religion, whether from knowledge that you witness from him, or work that he does, or good character that he has.
