Abu Talib told us Abd al-Rahman bin Ibrahim al-Rasbi told us Malik bin Anas told us on the authority of Nafi` on the authority of Ibn Umar, he said: Omar bin al-Khattab wrote to Sa`d bin Abi Waqqas, while he was in al-Qadisiyah, that he directed Nadlah bin Muawiyah al-Ansari to Helwan al-Iraq, so he would invade its suburbs. He said, Sa`d directed Nadlah with three hundred. Persians, so they went out until they reached Helwan, Iraq, and raided its suburbs, and captured spoils and captives. It was afternoon and the sun was about to set, so Nadlah took the captives and the spoils to the foot of the mountain, then he stood up and gave the call. “God is great, God is great,” he said, and someone from the mountain answered him, “You are great, Nadlah.” Then he said, “I bear witness that there is no god but God,” so he said the word of sincerity, O Nadhla. He said, “Live to the prayer.” He said, “Blessed is he who walks to it and perseveres in it.” Then he said, “Live to the success.” He said, “He who answers Muhammad, may God’s prayers and peace be upon him, has succeeded, which is the survival of his nation.” He said, “God is great, God is great.” He said, “You have grown great.” He said, “There is no god but God.” He said, “I have sincere sincerity, O Nadlah.” So God forbid your body. On the Fire. He said, when he finished his call to prayer, we stood up and said, “Who are you, may God have mercy on you, my hope.”
